What does thriving mean? Chaos runs awry in our planet today. Do you feel shaken to the roots of your being? How can one thrive in such a turbulent climate?
Thriving involves prospering and inner growth. Note: Inspired by Richard Rudd “Practical Guidance for Thriving”
Do you, yet, experience fear and or anger? When we get stuck in fear, what occurs? Fear like a magnet draws more fear. We then keep recycling the fear. Like a hamster in a rotary cage, we keep spinning nonstop.
Aside from fear we may fall into feeling victimized. As a victim we sink into a swamp of “poor me.” Unless through an act of will, we remain stuck.
So, anger may rule our lives. We curse at rising food and gas prices. In our thoughts we fight against the conflicts in the world.
How will we ever flourish and prosper? We can stay in blame, shame and reaction to our partners. It takes effort to shift from focusing on chaos in our outer world.
Thriving: Shift Outer Attention
It requires shifting our attention from the outer. Thriving involves becoming aware of our inner world.
We always have a choice. You may decide to pay attention to inner body feelings. We can also pay attention to our critical fearful mind chatter. Awareness as a first step.
Stillness Meditation
Meditation to deal the left brain mind, critical voices/self-judgement
In essence, we sit in a quiet environment, and clearing our minds of all thoughts. Focus on the breath entering and leaving our bodies. When our minds drift, we bring them back to our breath. Practiced, this meditation helps us stay present in daily life.
Awareness; Compassion; Transmutation
Richard Rudd gives 3 tools for dissolving victim patterns.
1 Awareness; 2 Compassion; 3 Transmutation (ACT – Use the tools to take action)
Journal – Write your impressions in a notebook
Awareness
- Notice details when you fall into inner victim child
- What event occurred? (Conflict with a partner)
- What did you feel? (Anger or loss of energy)
- What thoughts did you have? (I am never heard or I better just be quiet)
Compassion
- Be patient with yourself. (It takes time)
- Accept and embrace your shadow. Imagine holding it like small child. This is your inner child.
- Notice the repeating emotions and beliefs that give the victim/shadow life
Transformation
- Call in the Divine Light/Higher Power or the Gift related to the victim/shadow
- Notice where you feel the shadow sensations in your body
- Focus your attention and keep breathing into that area i.e. your belly
- Stay focusing and breathing until you notice some change
Note: Repeat the 3 tools each time the victim/shadow appears.
It took me a long time for Awareness of my victim. I discovered Compassion and Transformation later.
