Men Stopping Violence: Active Listening/Validation – Part 2

1 billion rising

Did you know 1 in 3 women and girls – over 2 billion – on the planet will be raped or beaten in their lifetime, according to onebillionrising.org? Men Stopping Violence – Rise Up!

An essential part of true listening is the discipline of bracketing, the temporary giving up or setting aside of one’s own prejudices, frames of reference and desires so as to experience as far as possible the speaker’s world from the inside, step inside his or her shoes. M. Scott Peck, MD

Men Stopping ViolenceThis article is an update on the work of One Billion Rising as well as V-Day, global movements to end violence against women and girls. I believe one major way involves a paradigm shift in the way we as men listen, communicate and validate the inner essence and self-esteem of women and girls.

See previous article https://www.emotionalhealthtips.com/men-stopping-violence/ on how to listen and understand women and girls.

Eve Ensler, author, playwright and activist started both of the above movements in 1998.

On February 14, 2013, a one-day event, occurred for one billion women and also supportive men around the world to join together to dance in a show of collective strength.

Break the Chain – video and song – a great arising, a “Women’s Spring” to uplift the energy of women and the Divine Creative Feminine forward to its rightful place on the planet.

I can see a world where we all live
Safe and free from all oppression
No more rape or incest, or abuse
Women are not a possession
– Tena Clark

Tips to Learn How to Activate Listening/Validate:

To be able to validate means to listen actively. It means to listen to the meaning behind the words and feelings at a deeper level.

active listening validation 1. Offer to listen. Let your daughter/women know it is okay to have their feelings.

2. Be present physically and emotionally.

3. Listen without figuring out how to respond.

4. Allow your daughter/women to talk without interjecting with your past habitual answers.

5. Acknowledge your daughter/women’s feelings as you see, feel, or hear them.

6. Be accepting, patient, and non-judgmental. Accept your daughter/women’s uniqueness.

Validating may be enough for your daughter/women to continue talking. Sometimes you may need to ask questions like: I can see that really upset you; You look sad; Would you like to talk about it, etc.?

Will you join like-hearted men on the planet to allow the Divine Creative Feminine to return in empowerment to balance the male energies, thereby stopping the violence to your inner feminine, the feminine as represented by girls and women and also the planet?
