What is inner child healing? Did you grow up in a “troubled” home? Was your inner child stifled, unable to breathe?
Did you have a voice?
I felt alone all the time. Never did I think I could speak up. I had no idea of my feelings. If I did express, a part of me knew my father would yell or beat me.
I had no sense I had an inner child, until my 40’s. Furthermore, I never knew my child was wounded. I had no idea that it could be healed. Even if I had wanted to, how would I heal this child?
Consciousness is the core experience of our child within. It transcends our five senses, our co-dependent self. Healing the Child Within Dr. Charles Whitfield
How Do You Recognize the Signs of Inner Child Healing?
- As an adult, do you experience:
- Repeated fear of intimacy, mistrust, or shame
- Feeling unlovable or less than
- Desire to please others
- Issues with authority
- Judgment or criticism of yourself or others
- Intense anger
- Feelings of isolation
- Repeated patterns of conflict
- Failed relationships
- Repeating emotional reactions to people or events
The above signs can or show a wounded inner child asking for healing.
Healing Your Wounded Inner Child
Your wounded child splits off. Disconnects because of family trauma. As I said earlier, you may have felt afraid, hurt, or abandoned.
Did you feel afraid to express these feelings in our family? These severed parts contain positive qualities of truth, love, or courage.
Do you as an adult, search outside yourself for love from others?
When will you decide to do something about your pain and suffering?
When someone pushes your emotional buttons, do you react from memories? If your reaction has a lot of energy, old wounds have been activated.
What if you could stay in the present moment with your feelings?
To be a truly alive, loving adult, we must first feel the pain of our past. Accept the pain, know the pain, and be with the pain without jumping to defense, attack, or act out. John Bradshaw Author Homecoming
As a child, do you experience powerlessness? An adult can stop being a victim. You can take back your power. So, you can continue blaming your parents for their imperfections.
You can now decide to be a loving parent, the parent you never had. You can nurture your inner child. Learn to hear the inner voice of your child. Or you can continue to criticize our inner child.
Did you feel and think you were unintelligent or worthless? Then you remain an abuser and neglectful like your parents.
How can you begin to connect with your inner child? Ask inwardly when your emotional buttons get pushed. How old am I feeling now? Use your intuition. Listen for the first answer you get. You may get 4, 5, 6, or 7 years old.
Methods to Heal Your Inner Child

- Childlike drawing or doodling
- Walking in nature barefoot
- Physical activity of any kind your child enjoys
- Have therapy sessions with a therapist or energy healer. Someone who has done their emotional healing
- Soul Retrieval of Split-Off Child Aspects
Read & apply methods from inner child healing books. For instance, Healing the Child Within by Charles Whitfield. Homecoming: Reclaiming and Championing Your Inner Child by John Bradshaw
Do some of the above activities weekly. When you make a promise, follow through for your child to develop trust and feel loved.
Will You Choose to Become a Loving Parent to Your Inner Child?
Have you ever wondered why your life never gets better?
If your child never has the chance to heal, you will recreate the pain and suffering from your child’s wounds. You do this continually and unconsciously.
This child will continue as it has in the past, to run your life with its emotional trauma and wounds.
Healing our inner child creates a solid foundation for strong self-esteem.
If you feel alone, empty, anxious, depressed, hurt, angry, jealous, sad, fearful, guilty, or shamed, you are abandoning yourself. Dr. Margaret Paul, Ph.D. Psychology Inner Bonding
Inner Child Healing
A feeling of abandonment, as a child, creates our first major wound. This abandonment can be pictured as loneliness, loneliness in groups. It can feel unseen by our parents siblings or peers. This feeling then becomes active in our inner child. It taints all our relationships.
Choose to become aware of how your inner child feels by going inside yourself. Do you sense, overwhelmed, out of control, lost, little, lonely, or sick and tired? This tells us our inner child needs attention.
Take a breath and imagine connecting with your child within you.
Imagine talking to your inner child and asking them:
- What do you feel?
- What do you need?
- What would you like to do?
The minute we have awareness and ask the energy starts to move. For example, notice at this moment you feel unsafe. Be aware of what would help you feel safe. Imagine giving that to yourself. Take responsibility for your own needs. Taking action supports both you and your inner child’s growth.
Conclusion
- The wounds I mentioned have the gift of connection within it. Hold your inner child. Then imagine holding yourself also with tenderness.
- Honor your pain. Allow the Light of the Divine, in whatever way this comes to you. The Divine shines upon the wound until it is ready to dissolve. Complete surrender, no forcing anything. This may take some time, days, or weeks.
- Do you feel shame about your wounds and keep them hidden, By connecting with your wounds and allowing Divine Light, healing occurs. Healing emotional abuse also occurs.
- All this strengthens your central core, the foundation of your being. You can imagine this as a pillar of golden light. It aligns through the center of our body from head to toe.
Cathryn L. Taylor writes in The Inner Child Workbook. The inner child embodies the characteristics of the innocent part of the self. What you do not master in childhood reappears in your adult lives. It shows up as inappropriate responses to people, places, or things.
