Pain is sensation in the body at a particular time, brought on by physical injury or disease or by an emotional shock. Suffering, on the other hand, is spread over time and must be accompanied by some story or narrative about the pain.
PAIN
Your story only serves as a resistance to your pain. On the other hand, you can completely sink into the pain.
When you chose to stop suffering, then you can feel your pain. You open to it. Suffering is the low end of pain. It is contraction.
Your story is all your mind tells you about your suffering around pain. This is the “low end” of your experience.
The “high end” is clarity, joy, and peace.
Which will you choose?
Wanting to stop pain is natural.
Do you know you have a choice to stop your resistance to pain?
You can face your torment rather than being a victim. At the opposite end is healing and higher consciousness.
Next time pain arises, open to it. The pain can be physical, emotional, mental or spiritual. Open to meet your pain in the moment. Pain is the truth of the now moment.
SUFFERING
Blessed is the man who has suffered; he has found life. Gospel of Thomas
Allow the presence of suffering rather than resisting or wanting to escape it.
Have you approached suffering consciously?
Consciously recognize your impulse to escape. Instead face directly whatever appears. It may be grief, loss or sadness.
Rather than seeking relief, fully surrender into your suffering.
Notice if your physical, emotional, mental or spiritual energy resists suffering. You have a choice to drop your resistance and meet the suffering.
Meeting suffering is the willingness to be absolutely still. It is the “stillpoint.”
The core of suffering reveals the jewel. A jewel of what is real, true, and who you are.
You may help others alleviate their suffering. Then you will better help your clients.
STILLPOINT
At the Still Point of the turning world … Neither from nor towards. At the Still Point, there the dance is … There is only the dance.
T.S. Eliot Poet
To find your inner Still Point requires paying attention and feeling your inner world. This means recognizing and letting go of your negative thoughts. You may want to free yourself from your constant chattering mind.
There are several Still Points. Each is deeper and more “Still.” Enjoy each stillness you experience.
Mediation: Align with Your Still Point
See, feel, imagine or visualize a vertical Light ray throughout your spine.
- This Light comes from the Creator, Divine, God or Source.
- Breath directly from the Divine into the crown of your head; the top of your head.
- Now breath it down into your energetic heart at the center of your chest.
- Continue breathing down your body and into the earth below your feet.
- Finally, breath all the way down into the central axis of the Earth.
